FAQS

What is a sealer?

sealer is a liquid, or carrier containing a resin that is applied to porous natural stone or man made surfaces that helps prevent staining from water and/or oil based materials as well as help to achieve better results when cleaning your surfaces.

Why is it important for me to have my marble tiles sealed?

Sealers are different from polishes and are actually designed to keep liquids and dirt particles from sinking into the natural stone. It is extremely important to have your marble tiles sealed. All marble tiles should be sealed when they are first installed; this initial seal can last up to 15 years. It is important to call us as soon as your marble floors are installed so we can protect them before any accidental permanent damage occurs.

How do I know if my marble floors need sealing?

Tile Cleaners® advise the simple "water test". The water test is well known in the stone industry and it will help you determine whether your marble floors require sealing. First you need to place a few drops of water on your stone and let it set for around 10 to 30 minutes then wipe it dry. If your stone did not darken, it means your marble is perfectly sealed and does not require sealing, but if it has darkened, it means that the water was able to penetrate your stone and sealing is required.

What kind of sealer do you apply? And will it affect the texture of my marble tiles?

All of our sealing products are water based, we do not apply solvent- based sealer except in certain cases where it is the only option. The sealer will not affect the texture of your marble tiles in any way; however, it will protect your marble from staining and maintain that lustrous, natural finish you are looking for.

Do you provide colour enhancing, and how does it work?

Yes we do. Colour enhancer is a compound designed to enrich the natural look of marble tiles. It darkens and enhances the colour of your tiles and brings out the natural beauty in your marble, giving a slight wet look/low sheen.

Will the colour enhancer affect the texture of my marble floors?

Tile Cleaners® colours enhancer will not affect the texture of your marble floors, however, it will enhance the colours of your marble tiles and bring out the natural beauty of your surfaces.

What is the process I can expect when you come to re-seal my marble floors?

Our professional team will go through the job processes with you step by step so you know exactly what you're getting. The process includes stripping any previous sealer if it was applied, the marble is then thoroughly cleaned and neutralised so that it is free of dust, residue and anything else that can affect the new sealer. A new sealer is applied to the dry marble floor and allowed to set. The newly sealed marble floor will not only look new again, it will be protected and result in your marble becoming easier to maintain.

How long will it take to reseal my marble floors?

It all depends on the size of the area that we are sealing but most jobs take 4 - 8 hours to complete. We do cleaning and resealing in the same day so you don't have to fuss with more than one appointment.

How long does it take for my marble tiles to dry?

It takes 4 hours to be touch dry and normally 24 hours for the sealer to fully cure, which is when you can put everything back into place. Nothing hard such as furniture can be moved on to the tiles and grout for at least 24 hours.

Will the sealer make my marble floors slippery?

Deepshield™ Impregnating Penetrating Sealer does not alter the slipperiness of your marble tiles' surface as the sealer penetrates the top layer of your marble. Topical Sealer may result in your marble floors becoming slippery when wet. To maintain the look and slip resistance of your marble and to prevent damaging moisture from being trapped within the stone, it is recommended to seal your surfaces with a high quality, invisible, fully breathable impregnating sealer.

What is acid etching and how can I protect my marble against it?

Any acidic substance is harmful for your marble tiles, they can be etched(eaten/corroded) easily and sealing against acid attack is very difficult. The best way to protect your marble tiles from acid attack is to seal and clean spills immediately. The high porosity of stone based tiles makes sealing a must in order to provide protection against future acid attack and liquid spillage.

What different types of marble tiles do Tile Cleaners® seal?

Indoor and outdoor areas, Polished Marble, Honed Marble, Matt Finish Marble, Porous Marble, pre-sealed Marble, wherever you have Marble tiles we have the answer. External tiles, natural stone pavers and tiles pavers, bathroom Marble tiles on floors and walls. We cater for each and every different type of tiles you might have.

Are your cleaning products toxic?

Here at Tile Cleaners® we understand the importance of your family's safety, which is why Tile Cleaners® prefer to use non-toxic finishing agents as we not only want to protect your marble floors, but your families health too. Materials and agents that present potential health hazards are not in our product portfolio and never have been.

How often should I seal my marble floors?

It depends on the type of sealer used and the amount of foot traffic the marble tiles are being exposed to. Australia's Deepshield® range of deep impregnating water based sealer's, offer long term benefits with Deepshield Gold® specifically designed for denser materials such as marble and granite lasting for up to 15 years. Topical sealer's have a life expectancy of around 3 years. If you have a high amount of foot traffic or perhaps severe weather conditions(for outdoor tiles), you may experience a shorter lifetime. Sealing your marble tiles can also depend on the tiles condition. Once they start showing patchy areas and are staining easily then you should have them resealed. Give us a call and we can assist you with all your enquiries.

What happens if I don't seal my marble floors?

Marble floors can damage easily, any oily or harsh spills can damage the marble tiles and penetrate the pores leaving a permanent stain, unreachable by domestic cleaning methods. We strongly recommend sealing you marble tiles to keep their natural look and feel, to protect them against permanent staining and to prevent any future accidental damage. They will look their very best for longer and will be easier and more convenient to maintain.

When is the best time to seal my marble floors and how do I know that mine need sealing now?

The best time to have your marble tiles sealed is immediately after installation to prevent any accidental staining or damage. You will know that your marble tiles need sealing once you start noticing patchy sealed areas of the floor and/or your marble tiles are staining easier.

There is a stain on my Marble floor. Can you remove it?

If the stain is new and has not set in well, we will probably be able to remove it. However, we cannot guarantee that we will remove it completely; we can only guarantee cleaning it back to its best possible condition. This also depends on whether the Marble tiles have been sealed previously or not. Some stains might penetrate the natural stone and settle in below the surface and can be hard to clean out. It is important to have us strip, clean and seal your Marble floor so in the future nothing will be able to stain your Marble floors.

Does sealing my marble floors hide scratches and etches?

Tile Cleaners® colour enhancing sealer may help hide those nasty scratches you have, but we cannot guarantee that they return to their original condition. Deepshield™ Penetrating Colour Enhancing Sealer darkens your marble tiles by up to 20% and can help camouflage etches, restoring the natural, new look of your marble floors.

What can I do to keep my marble tiles looking new after sealing them?

To keep your marble tiles and grout looking new, Tile Cleaners® recommend cleaning each week with a mild detergent to remove any dirt or grime from the marble surface. Strong detergents(strong acid or alkali) may affect the sealer, mild detergents and pH neutral substances are strongly recommended. Our best advice to protect your marble tiles is to seal them with one of our highest quality sealers. This is the best protection your marble tiles can receive against staining.

How will you charge me for sealing my marble tiles?

Tile Cleaners® charge per square meter for each separate marble room. There is a price list on the Tile Cleaners® website for you to review. Before we begin our work we will measure each room individually, confirm the work to be carried out as well as confirm all costs with you.

How do I measure the size of the area of marble I need sealed?

We recommend that you measure each marble area separately. The simplest way to measure is by multiplying the width by the length. For example a room that is 3 meters long and 2 meters wide is 3 X 2 = 6m2 in total.
